Crafters Devotional

A few months ago I was googling my name under BOOKS to see if my name showed up with the Urban Sketchers book. Well it did but I also found out my mermaid post was used in the book Crafter's Devotional - 365 Days of Tips, Tricks, and Techniques for unlocking your Creative Spirit by Barbara R. Call. On day 285 she suggests using mythical creatures in your art. My mermaid creature was used after making a tuna sandwich. I realized I COULD NEVER be a mermaid.

Figure Friday

I took down my drawer of conte, charcoal and pastel crayons to create this page of figures drawn from my favorite practice site, Posemaniacs.  I had already glued a sketch of my friend right in the center so I had to work around him.The oil crayons were hard to work with they are thick and wide. My favorite was the conte pencil and of course my technical pen. 8 x 11.5 inches in a large watercolor moleskine. BE YOURSELF.

the kuru toga mechanical pencil

When I first got the kuru toga mechanical pencil I thought the idea was silly and it was just another mechanical pencil. But after using it for several days I realized it is not just another mechanical pencil. It feels good in my hand and draws a steady width with each stroke.

I am used to being a little frustrated with my mechanical pencils, I have a heavy hand and the tip breaks often during use. Not with the Kuru Toga. You only have to press the top once to feed the lead out. Each time you lift the pencil from your drawing the lead rotates to give you an even point. I liked this pencil. I tried doing a zentangle with it as you can see in the photo. I only had to feed the lead out once.

This is not the first time I have purchased from Jet Pens. My favorite product from the website is the Pentel Pocket Brush Pen . I have tried many VERY EXPENSIVE Japanese brush pens from synthetic to pure sable tips. The is the first brush pen to give me an even flow every time. I hasn't dried up on me and is very reliable. It's my favorite of all time!
