Today I met filmmaker Anjalika Sharma at Balboa Park. We might collaborate on a project. She is a very inspiring woman, I'm glad she reached out to me when she saw me sketching with the Urban sketchers a few weeks ago. This is a link to our first Facebook Live video we tried together. Lots of fun! https://www.facebook.com/lydia.velarde/videos/10210841408611641/
I also drew a lady while I was waiting for Anjalika.
This sketch was done on the back side of the watercolor paper. No matter how hard I tried to put in my darks they were soaked up by the paper. It was a fun morning anyway, I met with the San Diego Urban Sketchers. A 3:38 minute video of the morning is shown below.
This video shows the San Diego Urban Sketchers, their sketches, and views from the Monument.
Zoro Garden is a 6-acre sunken garden within Balboa Park in San Diego, California. During the 1935-36 California Pacific International Exposition it was the site of the Zoro Garden Nudist Colony, which featured mostly-nude performers rather than practicing nudists. It is now planted as a butterfly garden.
Mission Basilica San Diego de Alcalá was the first Franciscan mission in The Californias, a province of New Spain. This video shows a few parts of the mission, and artists oil painting en plein air during an impressionism class. Video by Lydia Velarde, LydiaVelarde.com Music: Sunday Drive, Silent Partner
This is my first sketch in a very large sketchbook my friend Doris Bertch gave me. The watercolor paper pages are 11 x 14.5 inches. It was a bit scary at first, and I had to practice holding it on my lap before going out with it. I think I am going to enjoy this book.
This cactus garden was developed in 1935 for the California Pacific International Exposition. It contains some of the largest cactus and succulent specimens in Balboa Park. This is were the San Diego Weekday Sketchers met. Below are my sketches and a 3:46 minute video of the area, sketches, and my artist friends.
I found the instructions to this box on YouTube, it was very difficult for me to make and it didn't close very good. The button and string were added to help keep it closed.
A friend and I decorated some turtles with mosaic today. We will be putting on the grout next week.
Old dishes, 1 sunshine tile and concrete yard ornaments.
These sketches were created at The Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center. I went with a few friends on the Metro Link from San Diego to Santa Ana (an hour ride). It was an all day adventure due to 3 train delays. These were not mechanical Amtrak issues but caused by individuals. This was a joint meetup with San Clemente and San Diego Urban Sketchers.
