Junipero Serra Museum
Painting with the San Diego Plein Air Meetup Group at The JunÃpero Serra Museum, in Presidio Park, I had to stop, I was starting to not care what I did to it. I made some new friends and a VERY OLD FRIEND came to visit.
I used Gesso Board which took a little getting used to. It is smooth unlike a regular canvas.

Japanese Prints for books
Today I got to attend a Lecture: Japanese Prints for Books, at the San Diego Museum of Art. Dr. Masato Nishimura explained Japanese woodblock-print books, including those in the museum's permanent collection. It was hosted by The Asian Arts Council. Aside from all the members of the AAC in attendance there were many docents and an art appraiser I sat next to.
I learned about characteristics of Asian art as well as the history of Japanese block prints used in books. The photos I am posting are pages from my sketchbook done while in attendance at the lecture.

Life Drawing at the Encinitas Library
Figure drawing at the Encinitas Library. They have 2 clothed models and there is a $10 donation. These are 5 minute warm ups. It's a beautiful library with tons of windows, coffee shack, and seating areas outside with a view of the ocean!
Turtles at the San Diego Zoo
I went to see the baby panda at the San Diego Zoo but all I could see was a little white fur ball in a stump. He was sleeping.

Chicken Stamp Carving
This is a page of "tests" from the stamp carving I did after work. It's supposed to be a chicken. It might not look like like a chicken but that's what it is... thank you very much...

Santee Rocks
I had my first "Meet Up" with the San Diego Plein Air Painters Meet Up Group at Santee Rocks. It was a great group with friendly artists. I had a challenge with the multi colored rocks but I had a blast being out doors painting with other artists again.

inspired
One of the shows at the San Diego Museum of Art is Charles Reiffel, an American Post-Impressionist. He is considered a leader in the California plein-air school of painting. What I enjoyed was seeing a variety of his work in gouache, watercoler, sketches, oils and even crayons. There were many local scenes in the exhibit which included Del Mar, La Jolla and the Old Town Area. Your fee to enter the SDMA includes the show at the San Diego History Center which has more of his work including illustrated letters he wrote to friends.
If you enjoy figures, there is also an exhibit on figures at the SDMA.

my personal graffiti
I got a new mouse for my computer and the "hard" plastic on the package was so thin it looked perfect for a stencil. Cut with an exacto knife.
