Susan and Hattie

When my friend Susan said she was taking her little dog Hattie to the vet RIGHT DOWN THE street from me, I jumped at the chance to see them both and join Susan for lunch. These are the sketches and photos of the day.

EDM 138 draw something soft

Susan, Margaret and I spent about 7 hours plein air painting with Annette Paquet's class. I am still working on my piece from last week.

This is a lady at the critique. She doesn't have a Mr. Potato Head nose in real life BUT she does have a SOFT and floppy hat.

I did 2 small pieces of the China House. The top drawing is ink with watercolor which is complete and the bottom piece is just watercolor which I didn't work on too much.

San Diego Zoo

I spent about 5 hours at the zoo today sketching with Susan and Joan. Susan wanted to go by the tortoises because they keep pretty still but they were quite active and in some interesting positions.

It's good that we don't mind drawing in front of people. When the tortoises started mating about 1 foot in front of us, we were surrounded by tons of people. You can barely see Susan in her chair.
I stepped back to take a picture of all the people and we decided to go to the koi pond.
When my sister was here from Tennessee kept making me laugh by telling me about the tortoises at her zoo that were mating. She said the male was making faces and waving his arms up in the air. Well I watched our tortoises here in San Diego for a while and they NEVER did that. I'm going to have a talk with her. . . Hello?

EDM Challenge #3

Everyday matters Challenge #3 is "Purses, Wallets, or Bags". I was at an empty house waiting for someone to come give me an estimate on kitchen cabinets so I drew my purse on the counter. Twice. I am not into name brands, I pick my bags by how well they will carry a sketch book, pen and tiny paint set.

Me and Susan also had an outing planned because she knew of a wonderful place to take pictures of roosters and chickens. I took tons of reference photos - the chickens were laying eggs before our very eyes!

We were a block away from Dos Picos which is a huge park and campground in Ramona, California. They have a fishing lake, lots of shady trees and huge rocks. She gave me a little tour while I checked it out for a possible group paint out location.

Sketches while chatting.

Class at the zoo

Susan invited me to attend her zoo class today. The instructor, Annette Paquet was awesome and the class was absolutely FREE with the city of San Diego! I expect to take more classes from Annette, such as figure and plain air landscape painting.
