Meet up
I had a "meet up" today and made some new friends in the process.
Steven, Rachel and their sketches.
I joined Steven Sloan and Rachel Kopel at Grant's in South Park for about 3 hours of sketching and art chat. Steven is an artist, book maker, eraser carver and street performer! He brought a few of his recent books which he let us look through. His wife is also an artist. Rachel is an artist and was heavily involved with mail art in the past. It was great sketching and talking art with these two talented people!
My sketch of some homes in the area.

Wild Animal Park, San Diego
Spent the day with 3 friends sketching at the wild animal park. They have been working on the park and there are lots of new areas to look at. These are the lions where we spent most of our day.

journal entry 03-18-2009
The DVD, How to Draw a Bunny is about the collage, and performance artist, Ray Johnson. They say he was the founder of "mail art". He would paint and draw so much that he started sending pieces of the work to friends and family. He was a pretty strange character. When he sold his work he would ask the collector what they wanted to pay for the piece, then he would make a counter offer, then wheel and deal before letting go of the work. He didn't paint very much, his work consisted mainly of drawings and collage. Other times he would "put himself INTO the work".
