The Reconstructed Journal

Whenever I go sketching with Stephen and Rachel, Stephen brings sketchbooks he MAKES HIMSELF! I finally got to go to a class of his held at Studio Maureen and the Next Door Gallery. The class was called the "Reconstructed Journal". 6 of us attended and the journals we got to bring home were simply beautiful.

If you have never been to Studio Maureen, I highly recommend a visit. The studio includes a shop filled with wonderful handmade items, such as, ceramic art, jewelry, paper goods, glassware, clothing and irresistible garden art and folk art from Mexico.

Baby Shower

It was an exciting day... I got to attend my niece's baby shower in Los Angeles and see my family as well.

Free Tuesdays at Balboa Park

On the Third Tuesday of the month some museums are free to San Diego Residents.

I visited the
San Diego Art Institute Mingei International Museum
San Diego Museum of Art , The San Diego Art Institute
and the Japanese Friendship Garden . This sketch is of a fountain in the prado courtyard.

Happy Birthday Jeremy!

It was my day off so I spent the day waiting for 5:30 when we will take my son out for his 23rd birthday dinner/party.

I watched a DVD about portrait artist, Alice Neel which I found very sad. I like her work though, which was very "direct and fresh". I liked the way she kept the black outlines in her portraits. You can see some of her work here.

While we were at the vet with our dog, Boone I was reading some of the quotes from the movie to Gary... Suddenly we started making up our own:

Painting at Swamis with the SDWS

Today was the San Diego Watercolor Society paint out at Swami's Beach in Encinitas, California. I made another video which can be viewed here. It was so hot and shade was limited. I left early. .
