Old Poway Park
Did a little sketching at Old Poway Park today while Gary took pictures of me for Gabi Campanario's book on Urban Sketchers. We did a lot of errands with the last stop...Dairy Queen for a Sundae.

View from Aubrey Park, Poway
Today was a great morning spent at Old Poway Park. While I was there I heard there was a softball tournament at Aubrey Park so I spent a little time watching and listening to girls playing softball while sketching the view from the fields.

bOOKS
My husband and I took a trip to Borders so I could pick up Maira Kalman's new book And the Pursuit of Happiness. We stumbled upon Patti Digh from the 37 days Blog. Patti was promoting her new book Creative is a Verb which I bought along with Life is a Verb. She signed them both for me. We sat and listened to her talk for a while and I heard things I needed to hear.
Since starting my NEW FULL TIME job I have NOT found the energy to do the art I used to create on a daily basis. Well, I heard many words of encouragement. Mainly my own interpretation of "just do it" and "no excuses". Thank you Patti!

Book Binding
Last night I finished my first EVER book made with book cloth. My books didn't come out as beautiful as I wanted them to but as my friend Stephen says, "You can't learn something and perfect it at the same time". These books are 4 x 6 inches. Hand stitched and bound.
In one of the pictures you see the pretty end papers I selected but I did it wrong and the beautiful part got glued to the cover.
The book I used for instructions is Bookcraft by Heather Weston. It was fun and I'll probably try more projects from her book.

sketches for zine world
These are sketches I submitted to zineworld. I sketched a few tools used in the art of zine making. I later filled the page with color while watching tv.

Making a box
This box was made from instructions found on the lovely design blog the instructions are here. It was a fun project and the intructions are very easy to follow. I decided not to make a lid although it was tempting. The paper used on the outside was given to me by my friend Rachel. (thanks Rachel and Sharilyn)

Centro Cultural de la Raza
I met with 3 other sketchers at Balboa Park today. These are my sketches and the youtube video. After looking at the video I realized 3 of us had made our own sketchbooks! It's always fun to sketch with friends...

journal page
Last night I watched MTV. I was inspired to try some stick figures after looking at Rachel's the other day. There was a lot of movement on the screen with all the singers and dancers.
I also had to journal about my ongoing saga with the dreaded dentist.

The art of Manliness
The Art of Manliness has a fascinating article on how famous men used "pocket notebooks". The article: The Pocket Notebooks of 20 Famous Men" includes the notebooks of Mark Twain, George Patton, Thomas Jefferson and George Lucas.
It made me feel a little less loony for carrying mine around and documenting just about everything...
