Art Walk San Diego 2007

When I got home from Art Walk and reviewed my pictures of the day, they were of the surrounding art walk area. Maybe I got a little tired of looking at art, maybe it was the harbor breeze or (true confessions) maybe I was pretending to be a photographer.

Beautiful Pipes

A cute bungalow

The breakfast chair.

The tin man.
(a real man acting like a statue, poor thing)

Murals and Musicians

I wanted my picture taken under the little Italy sign but something happened
um . . . . or didn't happen

2 Rodeo Aceos done today

Bareback riding event

Team roping event.

Today I worked on 2 ACEOs both done in watercolor and ink on 140 lb watercolor paper. Watching an artist DVD is like visiting an art show. For me, it is pure motivation. Last night I saw a DVD on Al Hirshfeld, a caricature cartoonist. Constantly drawing, carrying his sketchbook around, and working daily. Why do artists draw and paint? I don't know, I think we just have to.

Bocce Ball vs Lawn Bowls

Bocce ball and lawn bowls are quite similar but I also noted a lot of differences when I attended a bocce ball tournament today. I went to draw and take reference photos but came home with just a few sketches. I don't know much about either game but here are a few differences I noted from my OBSERVATIONS today.

1. Lawn Bowlers wear their whites during tournaments, bocce people don't
2. It's usually kind of quite at a lawn bowls tournament. I find it relaxing. The Bocce tournament I went to was not very quiet.
3. Lawn Bowls is played with a white "jack". This Bocce tournament had a tennis ball at every game. I think it was meant to serve the same purpose as the jack.
4. The majority of the lawn bowlers I have seen are "seniors", very cute, respectable looking citizens. Bocce players were all ages with the majority looking 30-early 50s.
5. The bocce tournament had great music, I have never heard music during lawn bowling tournaments.
6. Lawn bowls games use a lot more balls. This bocce used about 3 or four for each team. I think.

Well that's from an observer not a player.

From the tournament.
On the right are high school kids playing the electric drums.
The music was very enjoyable. I was the only one that clapped though.

Pet Peeve Number 1 or.....Nut Buckets

There are nice little signs asking people not to sample the nuts and seeds but every time I shop at Henry's there are people eating out of the buckets. I really hate it when people eat the food I am going to buy. I don't want to be a crazy lady so I try to ignore them but I just can't. It's my pet peeve.

The Beets were beautiful

The Rancho Bernardo Winery had the Farmers Market today and the Beets were beautiful.
A painter's dream, the complimentary colors of the reddish purples with the greens of the leaves. Just look to nature for the best colors.

Not today though, I painted a ceramic crab and a plant.

Rodeo ACEO

I became fascinated with rodeos when I first moved to San Diego.
I still like sketching and painting them once in a while.
Here is one I did this weekend.

EDM 112 Draw Something Fresh

Everyday Matters Challenge 112 is draw something fresh
I hardly ever buy fruits and vegetables from the Farmers Market
but the fresh flowers are the BEST!
They last forever and the price is low.
This drawing is just a small selection from the bunch I got this week.
Fresh flowers on the kitchen table always brighten up my spirit.
