Friday Night Fever

Video performance artist, Megan Pogoda created a live video on the front wall of the museum.

Inside there was the  Lowbrow Art Exhibit, Institutional Well Being and Cell Memory.

It was a great night with lots of activity inside and out of the museum. We took a stroll around town and stopped into a comic shop where older guys were playing dungeon and dragons and passed by a MUSCLE shop where young men from the armed services were flexing their muscles.
These meters were located in "Artist's Alley" a few blocks from the museum.

Buffalo Bison

Me and my friends went to the Pala Indian reservation to take pictures of the buffalos. I believe they are really bison but what ever they were ... it was fun drawing and looking at them.

The buffalo are located right outside the Pala Casino where we enjoyed a lavish buffet.

bow wow

Bow wow was supposed to be a guest at the Best Buy today but he never showed up.

This has nothing to do with Bow wow but my friend told me this the other day and I liked it.

Wild Animal Park, San Diego, CA

There is a Lorikeet Landing at the Wild Animal Park where you can buy little cups of  nector to feed the birds. They fly up and sit on your arm while they DRINK away. When the cup is empty they are off to find more. These are very colorful birds, but I didn't sketch too much. Mostly took pictures.

My favorite animals were the caterpillars.

Rancho Santa Fe Library

This is the view just outside the front door of the Rancho Santa Fe Library. The Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club is right across the street which might explain all the pretty flowers. LOTs of pretty flowers.
4 artists showed up to paint. 2 artists showed up to visit and check the place out. I just sketched in my watercolor moleskine.

Friday Plein air meet up in San Diego

Spanish Village in Balboa Park, San Diego was the meet up location organized by Rachel Kopel today. Stephen and Sally also attended. Drawing, talking about mail art, book binding and ending the morning with a walk through the Chinese brush painting exhibit made it a good morning.

This is my sketch of some of the studios in spanish village.

Rachel, Stephen and Sally.

Stephen and Rachel were using books they bound themselves.

Life drawing

I tried a new life drawing group in San Diego. It was good session but I got pretty tired and some man said I was annoying him because my charcoal was too loud. I was new to the group so I didn't say anything mean back to him.

This is one sketch from a 20 minute pose done in a watercolor moleskine.

self portrait

I was inspired to do a self portrait after reading about Johan Leion on the Drawn blog. Johan has been doing a self portrait everyday for about a year now. I did a search on MY blog and found out I haven't done one since 2006.

Ft rosecrans cemetey

These are the last of the cemetery sketches and a few notes from a dvd I watched about being creative.  I think what they were saying is that it's not really about the money. (because most of the time there is NONE) It has to be about YOU. we create for ourselves or because we have to. As I say, "It's in my bones".

A nice gentleman contacted me about the cemetery sketches he saw on the "urban sketchers" blog. He works for the VA in the communications division of the cemetery administration and wants to use my sketches in his newsletter. Of course I said yes!

If you haven't seen the blog you should check it out here> Urban sketchers.

Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery

The second sketch I did at the cemetery was of the private residence on the premises.
