benten

tHE Goddess of Creativity is one of the 7 Gods of Happiness and the only women in the group. I was introduced to them by my friend Eileen who has a beautiful set given to her by her father. ... many years ago. I admired them and set out to find my own. She also gave me a set. You can SEE ALL THE entries by going up to the left hand corner of this blog and doing a "search this blog" for goddess.

Wikepedia explains them here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seven_Lucky_Gods

Georgia O'Keeffe and the Women of the Stieglitz Circle

This is a page of sketches I did while at the Stieglitz Exhibit earlier this week.

Anne Brigman was a photographer. Her photographs showed the female nude in dramatic landscapes.

Pamela Coleman Smith was a watercolor artist and graphic designer. The exhibit showed a set of Tarot cards she designed and many book illustrations as well.

Alfred Stieglitz was a renowned photographer. He was married to Georgia O'Keeffe.

EDM 184 Draw a bench

this is part of a bench for Everyday Matters #184 it was drawn while in Santa Barbara last week.

Balboa Park

This is a sketch done at Balboa Park from the Sculpture Court Cafe while waiting for the San Diego Museum of Art to open.

One of the photographers in the Stieglitz group exhibit was Gertrude Kasebier. She used a lot a white and manipulated her images to give them a painterly quality. Motherhood and family was the theme in a lot of her work.

If you want inspiration for journaling or just sketchbook drawing you will love this book. She also includes websites, blogs and contact information for each artist. Well done Dawn!

This is my red coffee pot. I didn't like it at first because my kitchen is blue and gray. Now I like the way it stands out. Bright and RED.

Life Drawing

I went to Ramona today to draw with a life drawing group. I warmed up on a large sheet of bond then, retreated to my small watercolor moleskine. The bean sketch is from yesterday. Just a reminder to myself....

EDM Challenge 179 Draw an onion

This is a pregnant onion. I sketched it in watercolor from life. They grow like nobody's business. They just keep having babies all over the place. You can't eat them or you will die. Too bad.
