Everyday Matters Challenge #127

I have to admit, I wasn't sure what a sky scape looked like. After looking up a definition and seeing a sample I found out that I could draw my rock.

Tooth Rock. Located right above my house. It's huge! When people hike up there they look very tiny next to it. When I first moved to San Diego I did some lengthy mental calculations and figured out that if it rolls down, it won't hit me. No worries.

Comic-Con Day 2 and EDM #129

I found it kind of funny that suddenly my sketchbook entries have little comic panels and balloon bubbles! I guess comic con got to me. This is also EDM Challenge #129, People doing something. I drew a lot of people waiting and also people speaking on panels.

This is from "How to Create Successful Comics Page Layouts". On the right side are people waiting for the "New Voices in Graphic Novels" panel to begin.

"Fresh Faces.." panel: Miriam Katin, Leland Myrick, George O'Connor, David Petersen, and Jamie Tanner. Moderated by Calvin Reid.

Jeff Watts giving a Portrait painting demonstration.

George Gladir , Archie Comics writer and creator of Sabrina. Batton Lash, cartoonist.

Comic-Con Official Day 1

I started the day with a Scream 2007 award panel. Purchased more autographed books from autobiographical cartoonists and got home exhausted.

Linda Blair from the Exorcist was on the Scream 2007 panel.

Hell Boy

This guy in the white sunglasses cracked me up when people were trying to take pictures of the costumed guests.

Comic-Con Preview Night

Comic Con 2007 Day 1 - If you like being around millions of people, this is the place for you. There was a lot of waiting tonight so sketching people was easy. I got to see Shannon Wheeler, one of my favorite creators. I got a Too Much Coffee Man t-shirt, coffee mug, a signed book and a picture. I bought 3 autobiographical books from Ryan Claytor which he also signed and drew pictures in for me.

Fallbrook, The Avocado Capital of the World

Everyday Matters Challenge #72 is Draw something new or go somewhere new to you and draw what you find. Write about it too.

I went to a tiny hospital in Fallbrook, California to see my sister who was visiting from Tennessee. I got to see my sedated, recovering niece and her dad too. I sketched when we weren't laughing and having a gay old time. It was a great visit. (my niece is doing fine)

My sister has changed a little but for the better. Below is my sketchbook journal entry for today.

Hamels Surf and Skate Rentals, Mission Beach, CA

I went to the Belmont Park in Mission Beach to sketch and paint today. It is the home of the first and only roller coaster ride I have ever been on. It was double scary in the 70s because the wooden frame looked a little old and rickety at the time. It has since been restored and I was impressed with the look of the area. It has some neat restaurants and shops in the main entertainment area surrounded by some of the older buildings.

My drawing is of Hamel's Surf and Skate Rental. There is a Tattoo Parlor right next to it. I am lucky I got another EDM Challenge done. Number 36 is draw out in public.

NCSFA Sketch and Paint Out- Oceanside Harbor and Marina

We had a great turn out at the North County Society of Fine Arts Sketch and Paint Out today. We met at the Oceanside Harbor and Marina in Oceanside, California.

Some of the sketchers and painters.

This is my little 5x7 inch oil done on canvas board at the sketch and paint out today. I still want to clean it up and change some of it. All the same blue bothers me.

Brie

"Cheese" was at my house when I came home from a paint out. I showed her my oil of the light house and she showed me pics of a mural she painted with a friend. She gave me permission to post them on my blog. I think they are pretty cool . . . the mural was done on butcher paper with tempera.

EDM Challenge 122 Shade

This is my shade challenge. A piece I have been working on the last few days. When I draw with ink, I don't pencil first. This piece had 2 major errors but I managed to scratch the ink off with an exacto knife then paint over it. Thanks to the thick watercolor paper.

EDM Challenge #125 Draw something yellow

I got a deal at the farmers' market today. My $5.00 bunch of flowers looked like 2 bunches! This is a little yellow flower from the bouquet. mmmm I'm thinking about this yellow. Did I make mud or is it the new gomboge yellow that makes it look orange . . . probably a little of each. Everyday Matters.
